Routes up Castle Crag, along the river Derwent and over to Watendlath all start within a few minutes of the door, so the car can stay put for days at a time.
The cottage itself is a cosy, traditional bolthole, and guests with dogs consistently mention the warmth of the welcome: a hamper laid on for the party, a goodie bag put together for the dog, and logs and coal ready for the fire.
