How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 1 pet-mention guest review sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 29 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.6/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Brandelhowe is a modern ground-floor apartment at Portinscale, the small village on the Keswick side of Derwentwater, with its own direct street access rather than a shared entrance hall. For a dog that is a real advantage: no corridors, no stairs and no lift to negotiate on the way out for a late walk.
Up to two pets are welcome at 25 pounds per pet, per stay. The apartment is modern and well thought out, with two en-suite bedrooms and parking provided, and it rates very highly with guests generally. What it does not have is any outdoor space of its own, so every toilet break is a lead walk. That is a fair trade given where it sits: the lake shore, the marina and the Portinscale footpath are all a few minutes away, Catbells is a short drive or a long walk, and the riverside route into Keswick is about a mile.
The village has a couple of places to eat but no convenience shop worth the name, so bring the basics and stock up in Keswick on the way in.
The building is divided into flats with hard floors, so footfall and movement from above carry into the living space. It is the right choice for a dog that settles easily and is not unsettled by noise overhead, and less so for a reactive one.
It suits a couple or small family with one or two dogs who are out walking most of the day and want a smart, low-effort base a short stroll from Derwentwater, and who do not need a garden to fall back on.
