How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 15 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 104 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.6/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Wend Gardens Studio is a compact, beautifully finished studio in a converted barn at Carleton, just outside Skipton, and it is clearly set up with dog owners in mind. Behind the studio is a small, fully enclosed private yard, and guests also get use of a larger fenced paddock close to the house for letting dogs off the lead, with a stream running by.
The owners live next door and leave a welcome letter along with fresh eggs, bread, milk and flowers. Throws are supplied for the bed and sofa; the house rules ask that dogs stay off the furniture where possible, but guests whose dogs sleep on the bed have found the hosts happy to provide covers. Couples have stayed comfortably with two dogs, though the floor can get chilly at night, so pack a blanket for a dog that sleeps low down.
Walking is excellent. Footpaths leave from the door across the fields, and there is a route of roughly 35 minutes into Skipton through fields and along the canal. The village pub in Carleton is welcoming to dogs, and the pub at Lothersdale is a popular recommendation, where booking ahead is worth it. The Yorkshire Dales are on the doorstep.
The few complaints are minor. The lane in is narrow and tight to turn into, so take it slowly. Heating comes via the air conditioning, which needs some boosting in cold weather, there is no freezer compartment, and the sofa has picked up a slightly musty smell for some. Guests who like to meet their hosts in person may find the self check-in a little impersonal.
For a couple with one or two dogs who want a stylish, well-equipped base with secure outdoor space and walks from the door, Wend Gardens Studio earns a 4.7/5 paw rating.
