The cottage sits on a farm above Burton Bradstock in west Dorset, with views across the village on one side and fields of sheep on the other, and the South West Coast Path is only a couple of minutes from the door. Many guests with dogs come back year after year, and it earns a 4.9/5 paw rating.
The fully fenced rear garden is what dog owners mention most. It is secure enough that even a determined terrier could not find a way out, so you can open the french windows and let a dog wander while you relax. There is also a field next to the cottage where some guests have let dogs run off lead, depending on whether sheep are in it. The owners live close by, greet guests in person with a bottle of wine and are on hand for advice without getting in the way.
You can leave the car parked for most of a stay. Hive Beach and its cafe are around ten minutes away across the fields, the clifftop path leads on to West Bay and beyond, and the village has two dog-friendly pubs, a shop and a garage within a short walk. Bridport is about ten minutes' drive.
There are a few small drawbacks. The lane up from the village is steep, the pubs get busy enough that it is worth booking a table, and the garden has little shade or seating for hot days. One guest who was not travelling with a pet noticed a doggy smell on the vacuum cleaner, worth knowing if anyone in your party has an allergy. Builders working on the neighbouring property also took the shine off one stay.
For a couple with one or two dogs who want coast walks from the doorstep and a garden they can trust, Village View is an easy choice.
