Tides Reach, Trebarwith Strand

Tides Reach sits at Trebarwith Strand, one of the more dramatic beaches on the north Cornwall coast, a couple of miles south of Tintagel. It is a whole-house rental sleeping four to six, and the location does a lot of the work for a holiday with dogs: the sand, the cliffs and the South West Coast Path all start within a few minutes of the door.

Dogs are welcome and up to two can come on a booking. Guests travelling with dogs describe a clean, comfortable and notably light, open house, and the terrace is the part they remember - sea views from a spot the dogs settled on happily, and somewhere to sit out with a less mobile member of the party without anyone having to walk far.

Two things to plan for. The garden is not enclosed and the property sits on a main road, so dogs need to be on the lead the moment they leave the house - this is not somewhere to open the back door and let them out unsupervised. Take that seriously with a young or recall-shaky dog. The other point is far smaller: guests have found the double bed soft and the television a little fiddly to work out.

Trebarwith Strand is a strong base for walking. The beach is broad at low tide and disappears almost entirely at high water, so check the tide times before you set off. The coast path north takes you to Tintagel and its castle headland, and south towards Port Isaac, and there is a pub right at the top of the beach that is well used to walkers and dogs coming in off the path.
