Pet-friendly summary
The West Wing feels more like staying in a well-loved family home than a holiday let, and it is a generous place to bring a dog. Set in the Vale of Clwyd near Llandyrnog and Bodfari, it has large gardens, plenty of room indoors for dog beds and hosts who make a fuss of four-legged guests, earning a 4.7/5 paw rating.
Up to two dogs can stay, and one guest brought a cat, who spent the week racing round the gardens. Guests mention doggy bones waiting on arrival, maps and suggestions for walks suited to older dogs that cannot manage stiles, and extra rugs brought over when a dog's paws slipped on the tiled floors. The owners' friendly dog often comes to say hello.
The walking is excellent. The Offa's Dyke Path and the Clwydian Range are a few miles away, the coast is within easy reach, and the local pub welcomes dogs.
The garden needs care, though. It is large and looks enclosed, but the boundary to the main road is a hedge rather than a fence, and guests have been told there are gaps that lead straight onto it. Several chose to supervise their dogs outside rather than let them roam, and traffic noise from the A road can intrude. Indoors, the rooms are full of antiques and ornaments, so owners of a boisterous dog may want to move a few things out of tail height. Some guests found the beds soft.
Best for couples or families with one or two calm, well-behaved dogs who will enjoy the space and the hill walking, and who are happy to stay with them in the garden.
