It is a three-star property in a genuinely rural spot, and the grounds are the reason to bring a dog: guests travelling with dogs describe them as properly dog-friendly rather than merely dog-tolerated, with walking straight from the door in every direction.
One well-behaved pet is welcome. Inside, the suite is warm and well stocked - guests consistently mention plenty of heating, a comfortable bed, a good shower and a kitchen with everything needed for a self-catered week, plus a shelf of films, CDs and games for the evenings when the weather closes in. Larger dogs are well catered for; owners of big walking breeds have found no shortage of routes to tire them out.
One thing to know about the outside space. There is a slate area at the back of the suite that doubles as somewhere to rinse a muddy dog, but it is smaller than it looks in photographs and turns slippery in wet weather - fine for a quick wash-down, less so if you were counting on it as a drying area. Restocking is on the light side too, with tea bags and toilet roll drawing the odd comment, so a small top-up shop on arrival is worth the detour.
Best suited to a couple with one dog who want walking on the doorstep and a quiet base away from the Bowness crowds, and who do not mind that the nearest large village is a short drive or ferry hop away.
