Two well-behaved dogs are welcome, and the owners leave out throws for the furniture, dog towels and even a brush, which is a level of thought most self-catering lets in the Lakes do not bother with. Both bedrooms have en-suite showers, the kitchen is well equipped, and parking comes with the flat.
The location is the other reason it works with a dog. Ambleside village is on the doorstep, so a car is genuinely optional: it is possible to get through a full week without moving it, with the fell paths, the river and the shore at Waterhead all reachable on foot. Rothay Park is the easy short leg first thing, Stock Ghyll Force climbs straight out of the village for something steeper, and most of the cafes and pubs in Ambleside will take a dog.
The one thing to flag is housekeeping. Bed linen has been found less than spotless on arrival, with hair and a mark reported on a bottom sheet, so it is worth a check when you get in. Storage is also tight for two people and there is nowhere obvious to put a drink down in the sitting area. None of it stopped the stay being rated well overall, but it is the sort of detail that matters more when a dog is shedding through the same rooms.
