How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 3 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 6 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.6/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.

Pet-friendly summary
Swan Lodge is a peaceful farm stay with one of the best views in Somerset, looking out over the Levels to Glastonbury Tor, and it takes one dog. Guests who have brought a dog appreciate the gated patio area, which keeps a dog safely contained by the lodge, and the open countryside around the farm for longer walks. It earns a 4.3/5 paw rating.
The farm is a big part of the appeal, but it matters if you are bringing a dog. The owners' own collie is a friendly regular at the lodges and turns up with his ball most days, alpacas roam freely around the grounds, and there are ponies, sheep and hens close by. Families love this. For a dog, it means meeting resident animals on their home ground: a free-roaming alpaca has kept one visiting dog off the lawn for much of a stay, and its droppings on the grass were an unwelcome distraction. Sociable, livestock-steady dogs will be fine; reactive dogs, or ones that chase, will need to stay on a lead outside the gated area.
The hosts are friendly and helpful without hovering, and the lodge is bright, spacious and kept very clean. The hot tub on the deck is a highlight, and Wedmore village, Cheddar Gorge, Wells and the Avalon Marshes nature reserve are all close by for days out.
A few practical points. Follow the owners' directions rather than your sat nav, which can send cars down a muddy field track. There is no air conditioning, so the lodge gets warm in hot weather, and some of the living room furniture is showing its age.
For a single, easy-going dog and owners who want big views, a hot tub and a farm full of animals, Swan Lodge is a lovely choice.
