Pooley Bridge has cafes, two pubs, a bookshop and a local-produce store. Penrith is 6 miles for proper market-town shopping.

A practical note for spring stays: it's a working farm with Limousin cattle and Texel sheep, and lambing happens roughly March - May. If you have a herding-breed dog (collie, sheepdog, similar), chat to Amanda and Nigel at arrival so you know which fields to keep your dog out of during lambing season.
