Pet-friendly summary
Seacliff is a large bungalow set high above the sea just outside Bridport, on Dorset's Jurassic Coast, with the cliff path running past almost from the front door. It is let as a whole house, so a dog has the run of the place with no corridors or communal areas to manage, and the views from the main windows are the reason most people book it.
Two pets are welcome per booking. Walking is where this one earns its keep: the clifftop path leads off in both directions, the harbour is a short walk away for chips and a look at the boats, and the beach below is a real draw in the quieter months. Guests describe happy off-season weeks doing little more than walking the dog. The local beach carries seasonal restrictions, so spring and autumn are a very different proposition from August.
The garden is the honest sticking point, and it is worth taking seriously. There is no fencing at the front or the back, so a dog cannot simply be let out, and it is the most frequently raised point in reviews, with more than one visitor asking that future guests be told plainly. Anyone hoping for a secure patch to open the door onto should look elsewhere. The property also sits on a hill with several steep steps up to the entrance, which is awkward for less mobile people and for an older dog too.
Inside, the bungalow is roomy, comfortable and well equipped, though it shows its age in places: mould in a wardrobe and bathroom, a cold and damp feel on arrival out of season, and chipped crockery have all been reported. Reviews mention a lingering dog smell that surfaces when the vacuum is used, and a strong smell outside the back door. It is agency-managed, so expect a basic starter pack rather than a welcome hamper. A seagull nesting above the front door has made the front patio awkward with dogs and noisy at night, and coastal protection works have at times closed and noisily occupied the beach below.
Seacliff is best suited to active owners who want serious coastal walking off season and are content to keep a dog on a lead around an open garden. It earns a 4.4/5 paw rating.
