Sea Spray is one of the chalets at Monmouth Beach, at the western end of Lyme Regis, and its appeal for a dog is simple: you can be on the shingle in a couple of minutes. This is the quieter, fossil-hunting end of the town, backed by rock pools at low tide, with the Cobb, the harbour and the main sandy beach all an easy walk along the front.

One well behaved small or medium dog is welcome, so this is a property for a single, sensibly sized dog rather than a pack or a large breed. The chalet is let as a whole property, which means no shared corridors or neighbours to negotiate on the way in and out, and there is a parking space to the side, a genuine advantage in a town where summer parking is a competitive sport.

Inside, guests consistently describe it as very clean and properly equipped, with everything working as it should and a decent shower. It is compact rather than roomy, and guests travelling with a dog report enough space and seating for two people plus a dog without feeling squeezed. The beds are small doubles.

A few things to weigh up. The chalet sits one row back from the water rather than on the front, so you get the sound of the waves without the first-line view. The access gate immediately outside comes up more than once in the feedback as a source of late-night noise when cars arrive and leave. And the kitchen, while well stocked, has drawn the odd note about missing basics such as a teapot or larger mugs.

Sea Spray suits a couple with one steady dog who want to walk straight out onto the beach and back into town. If you need an enclosed garden, ask before booking, because the listing does not confirm one.
