How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 12 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 54 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.9/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet policy at a glance
- Bringing extra, unregistered guests or animals into the cottage, or exceeding the maximum of 3 guests without telling the owners, ends the stay immediately without a refund.
Pet-friendly summary
The Piggery is a one-storey cottage on a small farm at Greenbottom, ten minutes or so outside Truro, and for anyone touring Cornwall with a dog it is about as well placed and well set up as a cottage gets. Guests use it as a base for day trips as far as Tintagel, Land's End and the Lizard, Perranporth beach is around a quarter of an hour's drive away, and dog owners rate it almost without exception, which is how it comes to hold a 4.8/5 paw rating.
The dog set-up is the real thing rather than a checkbox. The private garden is fully enclosed and consistently described as secure, for small dogs and multi-dog parties alike, and there is a large field on site for a proper morning and evening run without getting in the car. Inside, the owner leaves throws and blankets for the sofa so the dog can settle in beside you without anyone worrying about the upholstery, and the welcome basket, with its cream tea and fresh scones, includes treats for the dog as well.
The hospitality is the other constant. Guests describe a warm welcome, a cottage that is immaculate and cosy, comfortable beds, a log burner for cooler evenings and plenty to do on a wet day, from books and games to DVDs and strong WiFi. Families, couples and solo travellers with dogs all report much the same stay.
A few practical notes. The access road is potholed with a sharp turn into the cottage, fine taken slowly but worth knowing on a dark arrival. The kitchen is well stocked, though a couple of guests would have liked ovenproof dishes and a tea towel. And the house rules are strict about who stays: a maximum of three guests, with every animal registered at booking. Arriving with an unregistered dog risks the stay ending without a refund, so declare every pet when you book.
Best suited to owners who want a secure-garden base for exploring the whole of Cornwall with their dog, and who appreciate a genuinely personal welcome.
