Rock House, Tintagel

Rock House sits at the sea end of Trebarwith Strand, on the north Cornwall coast a couple of miles from Tintagel, and the location is what people come back for. The beach is a short walk down the valley and the South West Coast Path runs along the cliffs above it, so a serious walk starts at the front door rather than after a drive.

The house is let whole, which is the easiest arrangement for a dog: no shared corridors, no lounge full of other guests, and nobody to negotiate with about where a wet dog is allowed to sit. One well-behaved dog is welcome. Outside there is a front courtyard and an enclosed first-floor balcony, both useful for letting a dog out or sitting with one without a lead in hand. The owner stocks the place unusually thoroughly, and spare dog leads are among the kit left for guests alongside wet suits, walking poles and umbrellas.

Guest feedback is consistently strong on the fundamentals: spotlessly clean, comfortable, and equipped with more or less everything you might have forgotten to pack. The layout runs to compact bedrooms and a generous open lounge and kitchen, which is a sensible trade in a house of this size. Trebarwith Strand has a beach cafe and a pub within walking distance, and Tintagel with its castle is a few minutes up the road.

Two things to weigh. This is a one-dog property, so it will not suit households travelling with a pair, and the welcome is written for dogs specifically, so anyone bringing another kind of pet should confirm before booking. Seasonal dog restrictions also apply on many north Cornwall beaches over the summer, so it is worth checking the dates for Trebarwith before a high-season stay. For an active owner with one dog and a coast path habit, it is very well placed.
