Pet-friendly summary
Quarry Cottage is a small, cosy holiday cottage in the quiet countryside above Trelogan in Flintshire, and it suits a couple travelling with a small dog particularly well. Dog owners rate it very highly, and it earns a 4.8/5 paw rating, largely thanks to the owners' welcome and a secure outdoor space.
The welcome pack comes up again and again. Dogs get treats of their own, alongside Welsh cakes, fresh flowers and tea for the humans, and some stays have found a dog bed and small towels for wiping paws waiting on arrival. The patio and small garden are enclosed, so dogs can be let out without worry, and the detachable shower head is handy for rinsing sand off after a beach day.
Walks start from the door, with quiet lanes, footpaths and woodland above the old quarry across the lane. Talacre beach, with its dunes and old lighthouse, is around ten to fifteen minutes away by car, and dog owners mention welcoming pubs in the area. It also makes a peaceful base for touring North Wales.
The caveats are mostly about size. The cottage is compact, with a small living space, and it is semi-detached, sharing its plot with a neighbouring holiday let that has the larger lawn and the better views. Owners of large dogs have found it a poor fit: the fencing is low enough for a big dog to step over, the patio is paved and stony, and the beach is a drive rather than a walk. The fencing along the path to the gate also has a gap a small dog can slip under, so keep a lead handy there. A few stays mention a very soft mattress, an oven that did not work and some general maintenance niggles.
For one or two people with a small dog or two looking for a peaceful, well-stocked hideaway near the North Wales coast, Quarry Cottage is an easy choice. Bigger dogs and bigger groups will be better served elsewhere.
