How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 1 pet-mention guest review sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 6 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.5/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet policy at a glance
- Pet fee: 20 pounds - confirm whether this is charged per night or per stay when you book
- Up to 2 pets per booking
- Tell the owner in advance if you are bringing a dog
Pet-friendly summary
Primrose Cottage sits above Porthminster Beach in St Ives, close enough to hear the waves, with sea views from the upstairs lounges and a garden with seating on both sides. It is a dog-friendly cottage with a couple of genuinely useful touches for dog owners - the outside hot-and-cold shower is a real help for rinsing a sandy dog after a day on the beach - but two caveats are worth understanding before you book.
The first is access, and dog owners have flagged it plainly. The cottage cannot be reached by car. You stop briefly on a busy road to unload, then carry everything down twelve steps and along a steep, narrow pedestrian path to the door. With a dog, luggage and a week of supplies to move, that is a lot to coordinate on arrival and departure, and it will not suit anyone with limited mobility or a dog that is awkward on steps.
The second is specific to dogs. Porthminster, the beach on the doorstep, does not allow dogs between 10am and 6pm in season, so daytime beach trips mean heading to one of the other dog-friendly beaches around St Ives instead. If beach time with the dog is the point of the holiday, plan around that rather than assuming the nearest sand will do.
On the practical side, up to two dogs are accepted for a 20 pound charge, and the owner asks to be told in advance if you are bringing one. Beyond that the cottage is comfortable and well placed: the town is a short walk away with no parking to worry about, and the sea views do a great deal of the work.
Best suited to active, mobile dog owners with one or two dogs who are happy to manage the steep, car-free access and to travel a little further for a daytime dog beach, in exchange for a characterful cottage with cracking sea views.
