Perranporth Golf Club's self-catering accommodation sits among the dunes of a clifftop links course above Perranporth, with the sea on one side and the town a few minutes' walk below. The setting is unusual and genuinely lovely, quiet and open and full of sea views, and Perranporth's long sandy beach is close enough to walk to with a dog every day.

Pets are accepted in all the caravans and in Lodges A and B, while Lodges C and D do not take them, so the unit you book matters here. The charge is £20 per pet per stay, which guests compare favourably with other parks, and you need to tell the property you are bringing a dog when you book. Dogs must stay on a lead everywhere on site, must not be left alone in the accommodation unless they are crated, and are not allowed on the beds or the seating.

The practical point people raise most is the route out. Getting to the beach or into town means walking across an active golf course, so dogs stay on the lead and you keep half an eye out for flying balls. Guests also report that dogs are not allowed inside the clubhouse, so eating out with your dog means heading down into Perranporth rather than staying on site.

The accommodation is where expectations need setting. Several guests describe the caravans as dated and threadbare for the price, and one reported mould and a strong damp smell in a carpeted bathroom. There is no WiFi and the mobile signal is poor down among the dunes. The reception staff, by contrast, are consistently described as friendly and helpful.

It suits dog owners who want a quiet pitch with big views within walking distance of a superb beach, and who are content with basic, no-frills accommodation.
