How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 12 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Newfield Farm Cottages is built for big family get-togethers, and dogs are very much part of the party. Three adjoining cottages in a converted barn near Blandford Forum can be booked together, and groups of fifteen or twenty describe bringing three or four dogs along for birthdays, anniversaries and early Christmases. It holds a 4.7/5 paw rating.
Up to four pets are allowed, and there is a pet fee of £20. The key draw for dog owners is the outdoor space: the grounds are gated and enclosed, so dogs can run freely while children use the swings and slide, and guests consistently say there was no worry about escapes. A welcome pack includes treats for the dogs as well as cake, flowers and fresh eggs for the people.
The owner is a big part of the experience. Guests describe her checking in during a storm, decorating all three cottages for Christmas and arranging a home-cooked meal for the first evening. Inside, the largest cottage has seven bedrooms and five bathrooms, and the two smaller ones give quieter space to retreat to, with a games room for table tennis and table football.
Walks start from the door, with bridleways and footpaths across the fields, a pretty route to a nearby cafe and a hill opposite that is worth climbing for the sunset. A pub with good food is about a mile away, and the Jurassic Coast is a reasonable drive for a day of fossil hunting.
A couple of things to know. The farm track into the cottages is in poor condition and needs taking slowly. The smallest cottages have run a little chilly, and the odd maintenance niggle has been reported in the bathrooms.
For extended families who want everyone, dogs included, under one roof with a secure garden, Newfield Farm Cottages is hard to beat in this part of Dorset.
