Mount View is a small cluster of self-contained cabins, pods and converted containers on a hillside at Ludgvan, a few minutes up from the main road between Penzance and Marazion. Several of the units look straight out across Mount's Bay to St Michael's Mount, and for a short break with a dog it is an unusually easy place to arrive at: you park beside your own unit, let yourselves in, and never share a corridor with anybody.

Dogs are clearly part of the plan here rather than an exception. Guests travelling with them arrive to find bowls and a dog towel already set out, and several of the units - the Nest and the Hut among them - have their own enclosed patio or terrace, which is the difference between a relaxed evening and standing about outside in the dark holding a lead. The pet charge is a token £2.50 per dog, per night. It earns 4.7 out of 5 from dog owners, who describe hosts that make a genuine fuss of the dog rather than merely tolerating it.

The on-site cafe and bar is the other reason this works well with a dog. It serves home-cooked food with the view over the bay, so an evening meal does not mean leaving a dog alone somewhere unfamiliar or driving out and back. Beyond the gate, Marazion's beach, the causeway to St Michael's Mount and the Mount's Bay coast path are all a short drive, with Penzance barely further.

A few practical things to picture in advance. Check-in is not until 4pm, so this suits a relaxed arrival rather than a long first day on site. Parking can get tight once the place is full, with the spaces beside the accommodation going before the main car park. The units are compact, and one shower room was reported to have no heating - this is pod-and-cabin living rather than a hotel room, which is most of the charm but worth knowing.

It suits a couple or solo traveller with a well-behaved dog who wants a quiet, view-heavy Cornish bolthole with good food on site, and who would rather have a private patio than a hotel lobby.
