Maple House, Chipping Campden

Maple House is a group-sized house at Ebrington, a couple of miles from Chipping Campden, and for a party travelling with dogs its appeal is space: a whole house with enough bedrooms and bathrooms for a crowd, easy parking, gardens on two sides and a hot tub for the humans at the end of the day. It earns a 4.3/5 paw rating on the dog feedback available so far.

The house takes up to two dogs, and the charge is per dog and paid when you book rather than settled on arrival. The rules are clear and fairly typical of a smart self-catering let: dogs stay off the furniture and out of the bedrooms, throws are provided for the sofas, guest towels are not for drying dogs, and a dog left alone in the house needs to be settled in its own crate brought from home. Dogs known to bark excessively are not accepted.

One point deserves care. Guest feedback describes the gardens as secure and fantastic for dogs, but the property itself does not guarantee the outside space is fully enclosed, and asks guests to check the perimeter before letting a dog off the lead. Both can be true depending on which side of the house you are standing on, so treat that walk-round as part of your arrival routine rather than assuming.

Chipping Campden is the northern trailhead of the Cotswold Way, so serious walking - Dover's Hill, Broadway Tower - starts nearby, and Ebrington's own lanes are quiet enough for a last outing after dark. The honest caveat is value rather than welcome: guests rate the house 7.7 out of 10 across 10 stays and question the finish against the price, with ordinary kitchen equipment, dust found under furniture (worth knowing if anyone in the party has allergies) and a hot tub that needed attention on arrival, though the owners dealt with it quickly. Best suited to larger groups with dogs who want space and Cotswold Way access over boutique polish.
