How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 3 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 11 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.9/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Laity Vean Hideaway is a bright annexe on the edge of Carbis Bay, a short walk from the branch line that runs into St Ives, and it is set up to take two dogs rather than the usual one. On this stretch of the Cornish coast that matters: households with a pair of dogs are routinely priced out of self-catering.
Dogs can stay for £40 per pet, per stay, with a maximum of two per booking. Guests travelling with dogs describe animals that settled in quickly, and there is enough light and floor space for two people and a dog without anyone climbing over anyone. The conservatory comes up regularly as a useful spot to sit with a wet dog after a walk, and the kitchen and bathroom are well stocked for self-catering.
The walking is the reason to book. Porth Kidney Sands, one of the better dog-friendly beaches along this coast, is reachable on foot, and Carbis Bay is about fifteen minutes away through the housing estates. The station is walkable too, and the hop into St Ives costs around a pound each way and runs every half hour, so a day in town needs no parking hunt and no dog waiting in a warm car.
One caveat is worth carrying into the booking. A cleaning fee is charged on top of the pet fee, and the cleaning has not always matched it. Hairs on bedding and crockery have been reported, along with a damaged air vent in the living room. A quick look round on arrival is sensible rather than assuming.
Best suited to a couple with one or two dogs who want a comfortable base within walking distance of a dog-friendly beach and a cheap train into St Ives, and who are happy in a compact annexe rather than a full house.
