- Evidence: 6 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 2 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 9.0/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.

Pet-friendly summary
Kittiwake is a small coastal cottage on the headland at Crantock, a few miles round the water from Newquay and a good deal quieter than it. It is one of three properties in a converted building, with parking behind and an open-plan living room looking straight out over Crantock Bay. Polly Joke is about five minutes on foot, Crantock beach a short walk the other way, and the coast path runs north and south from the gate.
Two pets are welcome per booking. What dog owners like most is how little driving the place demands: the walking is immediate, the village has a shop, a coffee shop and a pub within easy reach, and the cottage is modern, warm and easy to keep clean after a sandy day. Repeat visitors are common, several rebooking for the following year before they leave.
There are real caveats, and they are worth reading before booking. The garden is not fenced or secure, which comes up repeatedly as the change dog owners would most like to see, so a dog that bolts needs a lead outside. The information folder mentions pet blankets that have not always been in the cottage, and there is no shower attachment on the outside hosepipe for rinsing off a wet dog, which visitors have asked for. The boundary hedge has grown tall enough to block the sea view when you are sitting down. Reviews also note that evidence of previous dogs turns up when the vacuum comes out, and some visitors question whether a spot this good needs to accept pets at all, so anyone sensitive to that should factor it in. Minor niggles inside, including dripping taps and a noisy shower, appear in more than one review.
One local quirk: the driveway is shared with the neighbouring apartments, whose car park is private and has caused an awkward exchange for visitors who strayed onto it, so stick to the Kittiwake parking. The nearby beaches are dog-friendly according to visiting owners, though Cornish beach rules vary by season, so check the current position for your dates. Kittiwake suits an active couple or small family with a well-behaved dog who want beaches and coast path on the doorstep, and it earns a 4.6/5 paw rating.
