How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 5 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 9 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.7/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: August 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Jurassic Sea View is a large house on St Georges Hill above Lyme Regis, and for dog owners its best feature is the enclosed back garden. Guests travelling with dogs describe it as properly secure, which is what turns a self-catering house into a relaxing one: somewhere a dog can be let straight out without a lead at seven in the morning. The front terrace has the view everyone books it for, out over the town and the bay.
The house is big enough for a multi-generational group, and dogs have shared it with children in most of the parties who have stayed. The setting is quiet, on a cul-de-sac away from traffic, and the walk into town follows the river past the Town Mill, which is a pleasant route with a dog rather than a roadside slog.
Now the caveat, and it is the thing to get right before booking. The property sits high above the town up a flight of steep steps, and the walk back from the seafront is a serious climb. It comes up from almost everyone who stays. Fifteen to twenty minutes gets you down; coming back is considerably harder work. For a fit dog that is a non-issue and arguably a bonus. For an elderly dog, a short-legged breed, or anyone who might end up carrying one, think it through first. The same goes for the steps up to the front door.
The wider plot is on a slope, so while the enclosed area is secure, it is not a flat lawn for ball games. Dogs seem to enjoy exploring it regardless.
Best suited to people with a fit, active dog who want space, a view and a garden they can trust, and who do not mind earning the walk home. On that basis it earns a 4.5/5 paw rating.
