Pet-friendly summary
Hunters Cottage is a spacious, properly dog-friendly house in Benllech on Anglesey's east coast, a short walk from the beach and village. Dogs are allowed the run of the house rather than being confined to one room, which guests with older dogs especially value. It holds a 4.4/5 paw rating and takes up to two pets.
The fully enclosed garden is secure for dogs, and the house has stair gates, a thoughtful touch that owners notice. There is a covered hot tub, a barbecue and plenty of outdoor seating, plus a log fire for colder months and off-road parking for two cars.
The location is a big plus. Benllech beach is within easy walking distance for early morning walks, many of the local cafes, pubs and restaurants welcome dogs, at least outside, and Red Wharf Bay and Moelfre are a few minutes' drive for coastal walks. Supermarkets, takeaways and a bakery are all close by.
Cleanliness is where opinions split. Many guests found the house spotless, but a recurring run of reviews describes dust and cobwebs, dog hair left on bedding and sofas from previous guests, a drain smell in the kitchen and garden furniture left dirty. Most seriously for dog owners, two separate groups found shards of broken glass on the lounge floor and in the garden. It is worth checking floors and the garden before letting a dog loose, and raising anything with the owner straight away.
Upstairs, sloping ceilings mean watching your head around the beds and in the main shower, and parking gets tight when the neighbouring houses in the cul-de-sac are busy.
For families with one or two dogs who want plenty of space, a hot tub and the beach on foot, Hunters Cottage delivers on location and freedom for dogs, as long as you go in prepared for housekeeping that can be hit and miss.
