Heathcliff is a whole house near the top of Brixham, high enough that the upstairs rooms look out over the Devon coast, and the format is what makes it work for a dog: no shared corridors, no other guests, and a grassy area at the front door with a security light for late toilet breaks. Feedback from dog owners is still limited to a single stay, so read the detail below as one family's experience rather than a settled pattern.

Dogs are welcome for £35 per pet, per stay, and the managing agency asks to be told in advance that a dog is coming, so this is not a booking to make and mention later. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture, which is worth planning for: bring a bed, and a blanket if your dog usually claims the sofa at home.

The house itself reads as a well-kept holiday let rather than a bare rental. The kitchen is properly equipped, the towels and bedding are good quality, the decoration is coastal without being twee, and the listing photographs match what is actually there. Guests rate it 9.2 out of 10 overall.

Two caveats matter more than the rest. There is no enclosed garden, so the grassy area works for quick trips out but not for leaving a dog to potter unsupervised. And the position is steep: the walk down into Brixham takes about fifteen minutes and the walk back up is a good deal harder, which rules the house out for anyone with mobility problems and makes a short taxi ride home worth the money at the end of a long day. Brixham itself is generous to dogs, with plenty of pubs happy to have one under the table.

It earns 4.3 out of 5: a strong choice for one fit dog and its owners, and a weaker one for a household that needs a garden to open the back door onto.
