How this review was built Evidence, sources, refresh cadence
- Evidence: 2 pet-mention guest reviews sourced from major booking platforms - guests who explicitly mentioned travelling with a dog. Each review is screened for pet-relevance, then judged for sentiment to compute the paw rating.
- Not a personal visit. We don't stay at every hotel we cover - we summarise patterns from real guest reviews, paraphrased and never quoted verbatim. Full standard on our editorial policy page.
- Wider context: The property has 27 guest reviews overall across booking platforms, averaging 8.9/10 - the paw rating reflects only the pet-mentioning subset.
- Last refreshed: October 2026. Policies and pricing drift; we re-check on a rolling basis. Confirm specifics with the property at the moment you book.
- How the paw rating works: Full detail on the methodology page, including the three verification gates and known limitations.
Pet-friendly summary
Clydfan is a small whole cottage in the Twthill area of Caernarfon, a few minutes' walk from the walled town, its shops and its bus links, and it suits a dog owner who would rather leave the car parked. With the house to yourselves there is your own front door and no shared hallway, and guests who have brought a dog, a young puppy among them, found it an easy, homely place to settle in.
Inside it is compact but well thought through. The kitchen is properly equipped, and there is a washing machine and a tumble dryer, which earn their keep after a wet day on the hills or the beach. Dog owners describe it as cosy and comfortable, and it earns a 4.5/5 paw rating from the guests who travelled with dogs.
The location is the strongest card. Caernarfon's castle and quayside are a short stroll away, Twthill itself rises just behind the house with views over the town, and longer walks along the Menai Strait and into the Snowdonia foothills are close at hand. There is usually free parking on the street outside for those who do drive.
There are caveats to weigh up. There is no garden or outside space at all, and the front door opens straight onto the road, so every toilet break is a lead walk and a dog that bolts through an open door needs watching. Cleanliness has also been uneven: most guests find the cottage spotless, but a couple have arrived to find dog hair on the floors and bedding left from a previous stay, so it is worth checking the place over on arrival and raising anything straight away. The street can be noisy on summer nights with the windows open.
For a solo traveller or couple with a settled dog who want a cosy, walkable base in Caernarfon and do not need a garden, Clydfan is a practical choice.
