Clotted Cream, Lydcott Glamping

Clotted Cream is one of seven cabins at Lydcott Glamping, on a hillside above Looe with long views out towards the Cornish coast, and it is set up for dogs from the start. The owners keep four dogs of their own on the site, which tells you most of what you need to know about the welcome - though it is also the reason to say in advance if your own dog is nervous around other dogs.

Up to two dogs can stay in this cabin, and a pet fee of £20 applies. Not every cabin on the site takes dogs - one is too small - so book this one specifically rather than assuming the whole site is dog-friendly.

Guests travelling with dogs describe a well thought-out pod with a proper kitchen, a bathroom and king-size beds, and the outdoor space is where a dog gets the benefit: decking, a fire pit, an egg chair and a bench for eating outside, with garden around it and room for a dog to potter while you sit out. The hosts get warm praise for the touches laid on at arrival and for making nothing feel like too much trouble, and the views hold up through the day and into the evening.

For walks and meals out, there is a dog-friendly pub about a mile away serving food, and a farm shop and cafe nearby stocking everything from fresh produce to firewood. Looe, its beaches and the south-east Cornwall coast path are all a short drive for longer outings.

It suits couples who want a quiet, characterful base with sea views and outdoor space for one or two dogs, and whose dogs are relaxed around other dogs. On that basis it earns a 4.6 out of 5 paw rating.
