Pet-friendly summary
Chy An Gweal Farm Cottage is a beautifully finished cottage between St Ives and Carbis Bay, and on quality alone it is hard to fault: guests consistently describe an immaculate, high-standard interior, a good garden, parking for two cars and thoughtful welcome touches. If you are travelling with a dog, though, there is one thing to understand before booking - this is a cottage that tolerates dogs rather than one built around them.
Several dog owners have flagged the same restriction independently. Dogs are allowed in the kitchen and dining area only, not upstairs, not in the sitting room and not in the bedrooms. If your dog normally settles beside you on the sofa in the evening or sleeps in your room, that will not be possible here, and more than one dog owner has said they would think twice about returning as a result. The owner cites hypoallergenic reasons for the rule. The listing does permit up to three dogs, which is generous on paper, but it is worth weighing that against where they are actually allowed to be once inside.
The garden is the other thing to know about. While pleasant, it is not fully enclosed and backs onto a well-used path and the main road, so it is not somewhere to let a dog out off-lead unsupervised. Guests have also noted road noise at night, and the owner lives next door, which most found unobtrusive but a few felt was a little close for comfort.
The positives are real. The cottage genuinely is lovely - quality fixtures and fittings, very clean, with good parking and an on-site EV charger, though it is worth agreeing how the charging cost is calculated before you use it, as the billing has caught guests out. St Ives is walkable in around 20 to 25 minutes, with a steep climb on the way back, and Carbis Bay is closer still.
Best suited to dog owners whose dog is content to settle in a kitchen or dining space and does not need the run of the house or a secure garden. If you like your dog beside you on the sofa and upstairs at night, one of the less restrictive cottages around St Ives will suit you better.
