Pet-friendly summary
Borah Lodge is a cosy lodge tucked into a corner of a working farm near St Buryan, in the far west of Cornwall, and dog owners rate it very highly. It feels private and quiet, has its own hot tub for after a day on the coast path, and the welcome usually includes a cream tea waiting on arrival.
Up to two pets can stay. Guests have brought pairs of small dogs and found it ideal, and the fields around the lodge and nearby rights of way make for easy daily walks. The farm has its own friendly dogs who may drop by to say hello, which most visiting dogs enjoy, though a nervous dog may spend the stay on alert. There are reports that dogs need to be at least six months old, so check before booking with a young puppy.
The garden is the one thing to think about. Some guests with small dogs found it enclosed enough; others would have liked it more secure, particularly with dogs that wander or are not reliable on recall. If your dog is an escape artist, ask about the fencing first.
The location is superb for walking. Lamorna Cove and its cafe are within reach on foot, as are the local standing stones, Newlyn is a few minutes' drive and Mousehole around 15 minutes. The coast path is close by, though the stretch towards Mousehole involves clambering over boulders. Guests recommend Gwynver beach, a short drive away with a steep path down, and Long Rock beach towards Penzance as dog-friendly options. Summer traffic on the roads into West Cornwall can be heavy.
For a couple looking for a peaceful, well-kept bolthole with a hot tub and the Cornish coast on the doorstep, Borah Lodge earns a 4.8/5 paw rating.
